Mercedes Gonzalez Hale has extensive experience handling franchise matters. While at DLA Piper (formerly known as Rudnick & Wolfe one of the preeminent franchise firms in the United States), a significant portion of Ms. Hale’s practice involved franchise matters and disputes.
During that time, Ms. Hale represented some of the largest franchisors and area developers, including The Melting Pot, Signs Now, Coldwell Banker, Super 8, Travelodge, Motel 6, Century 21, and Re/Max.
Today, Ms. Hale represents area developers and franchisees. Her prior experience representing franchisors makes her uniquely qualified to help franchisees.
Ms. Hale assists clients who are interested in becoming franchisees.
Among other things, she reviews and advises them on the terms of the Franchise Agreement and the franchise disclosure document. She also represents franchisees in disputes with the franchisors. While the franchise agreements typically protect the franchisor,
Ms. Hale advises franchisees and develops strategies to ensure that the franchisors are complying with the terms of the franchise agreement.
In some situations, she has been able to successfully resolve disputes between the franchisor and franchisee, allowing the franchisee to avoid the restrictive covenants in the franchise agreement.
